The Star Money

by Brothers Grimm

A kind little girl finds herself utterly destitute after losing her parents and home. With only the clothes on her back and a small piece of bread, she wanders into the countryside with faith in her heart. She encounters a hungry poor man who asks for food. Despite having very little, she gives him her entire portion of bread. Shortly after, she meets a shivering child who complains about the cold. Without hesitation, she removes her hood to keep his head warm. Further along, another child suffers from freezing temperatures and lacks a jacket. She generously offers this child her own jacket as well. As night falls in the forest, she meets yet another child needing protection from the dark. The girl even gives away her last shirt, trusting that she will be cared for. In her moment of total selflessness, stars fall from the sky around her. These magical stars transform into valuable coins of hard currency. Although bare, she instantly receives a new, fine linen shirt to wear. She gathers the wealth in her new garment and becomes rich forever. Her journey shows that true generosity is always rewarded.

Then a poor man met her, who said, "Ah, give me something to eat, I am so hungry!" She reached him the whole of her…
